– Jeep is enhancing the capability, technology, and features of its flagship Wrangler SUV.
– The Ford Bronco is gaining popularity among off-road enthusiasts.
– A plug-in hybrid electric version, or PHEV, dubbed “4xe” by the brand, is a key differentiator attracting new customers to the Wrangler.
As it competes for off-road buyers with Ford’s newer Bronco, Jeep is updating its flagship Wrangler SUV with more capability, technology, and features.
The 2024 Jeep Wrangler has an evolutionary exterior design, as is typical for the quintessential SUV, as well as a redesigned interior with additional safety, convenience, and tech features like a 12.3-inch center control screen.
In addition to the interior upgrades, the 2024 Wrangler will offer additional off-road features such as larger tires and an 8,000-pound-capacity warn winch. It also adds many additional safety features and new roof options similar to what Ford’s Bronco has offered since it arrived to market in 2021.
Jeep has long dominated the off-road SUV segment, particularly with the Wrangler. Many competitors have come and gone, including General Motors, Ford Motor, and others, but the Wrangler has remained the industry leader.
The Ford Bronco, on the other hand, has been gaining traction despite some launch and supply chain issues. Last year, Ford sold 117,057 Broncos. In comparison, 181,409 Jeep Wranglers were sold. However, the sales gap between the two narrowed significantly during the first quarter of this year, to less than 2,000 vehicles.
A plug-in hybrid electric version, or PHEV, that the brand calls “4xe,” a play on the brand’s “4×4” off-road reputation combined with electrification, is a key differentiator attracting new customers to the Wrangler.
According to the company, the Wrangler 4xe has been the best-selling PHEV in the United States for the past two years. The automaker hopes to increase sales even further by offering 4xe on a lower-priced model called the Wrangler Sport S.
The Jeep Wrangler 2024 will be offered in Sport, Willys, Sahara, High Altitude, Rubicon, and Rubicon 392 trim levels. Ordering is now open, and vehicles will begin to arrive in Jeep dealerships in the United States later in 2023, according to the company.
According to a Jeep spokesman, pricing for the 2024 Wrangler will be announced closer to the vehicle’s release date. Wrangler prices currently range from around $31,000 for an entry-level model to more than $82,000 for the V-8-powered Rubicon 392 model.
