2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N – interior, exterior and drive
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has quickly become a favorite, making it to our 10Best Trucks and SUVs list with its impressive range, stylish design, and reasonable pricing. However, if you’re seeking a more exhilarating performance, the upcoming 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, set to arrive in the U.S. in March, might be the answer.
Under the leadership of former BMW M division chief Albert Biermann, the N performance brand took a bold approach, going beyond the typical power boost and adding substantial enhancements. The chassis now boasts additional bracing, welds, and adhesives, while extra cooling addresses higher power demands. The suspension has undergone a significant overhaul for a track-ready handling experience.
Maintaining the Ioniq 5’s distinctive styling, the N variant sits lower, wider, and longer, featuring a pronounced rear diffuser and aero panels for a high-performance appearance. Performance-wise, the all-wheel-drive Ioniq 5 N delivers a whopping 641 horsepower, more than double the standard version, with an increased battery capacity of 84 kilowatt-hours. Equipped with 21-inch wheels and Pirelli P Zeros, Brembo-style monoblock brake calipers, and Recaro-like front seats, it’s clear that the N variant means business.
Having had the opportunity to test the Ioniq 5 N on the Korea International Circuit, acceleration proved immediate, reaching 60 mph in less than 3.3 seconds. Surprisingly, the N Active Sound+ feature, mimicking internal-combustion engine sounds, paired with the N e-Shift function for simulated gear changes, added a unique and enjoyable dimension to the driving experience.
The handling, initially balanced and controllable in N mode, gained excitement with the N Torque Distribution, allowing customization of power to the rear wheels. The Ioniq 5 N’s adaptability extends to various drive modes and settings, offering a level of control reminiscent of tuning cars in popular racing games.
For those craving a drifting experience, the N Drift Optimizer and Torque Kick Drift system provide options, making the Ioniq 5 N a legitimate track-day contender. Despite the sporty enhancements, the ride quality remains firm but not objectionable for everyday driving.
While range and official pricing are yet to be disclosed, Hyundai’s claims of impressive track performance and innovative drive modes make the Ioniq 5 N a promising entry into the EV space. With a potential price approaching $70,000, it’s poised to offer a giggle-inducing, versatile driving experience for enthusiasts eager to embrace electric performance.
