Porsche Panamera (2024) β Explanation and Demonstration / Dancing Car
Porsche is introducing an exclusive premium suspension system, Porsche Active Ride, as an option solely for the Panamera E-Hybrid models. This system, featuring active two-valve shock absorbers and single-chamber air springs, offers unparalleled driving comfort and performance across various situations. It operates differently from conventional adaptive systems and provides a wide range of dynamic behaviors, from luxurious sedan comfort to sports car responsiveness.
Porsche Active Ride utilizes electrically driven hydraulic pumps connected to each shock absorber, allowing lightning-fast adjustment of each wheel’s position to actively respond to road contours. This setup eliminates the need for traditional anti-roll bars, as the active dampers handle both damping and anti-roll functions. The system also replaces the previous complex air suspension with a more lightweight and efficient single-chamber air spring setup.
Key functions of Porsche Active Ride include:
1. Body Control: Maintains level body posture by countering pitching and rolling movements induced by acceleration, braking, and steering.
2. Insulation Against Uneven Surfaces: Smoothly balances out road imperfections, providing occupants with a comfortable ride.
3. Dynamic Wheel Load Distribution: Optimizes traction by dynamically adjusting spring and damper settings based on driving conditions.
4. Dynamic Ground Clearance: Lowers the body during high-performance driving to reduce load transfer and improve stability.
5. Active Cornering Dynamics: Counteracts body roll during cornering, enhancing occupant comfort and stability.
6. Acceleration and Braking Comfort: Minimizes pitching movements during acceleration and braking for a smoother ride.
7. Comfort Entry and Smart Lift: Adjusts ride height for easier entry/exit and automatically raises the vehicle in specific situations to prevent scraping.
In addition to Porsche Active Ride, the standard two-chamber air suspension with two-valve dampers offers a balance between comfort and performance, providing a smoother and more responsive ride compared to its predecessor. The new electric brake booster improves pedal feel and brake precision, especially in E-Hybrid models, optimizing control over braking force and energy regeneration.
Moreover, Porsche offers a performance tire option, the Pirelli P Zero Corsa, for the Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid, enhancing grip levels and track-driving suitability while improving wet-weather performance.
