Toyota Baby Lunar Cruiser – Inspired by the FJ Land Cruiser

Toyota boasts that the electric Baby Lunar Cruiser is “built to conquer rugged terrain on Earth and beyond.”

The electric Moon Rover is inspired by the original FJ40 Land Cruiser and takes ideas from the real Lunar Cruiser Toyota is developing with the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).

Despite the fact that it’s only a concept, it’s easily one of the coolest EVs to wear the Toyota mark.

Toyota blended the legendary tough 4 design with “the futuristic capabilities of an interplanetary exploration vehicle.”

Toyota’s best-selling car in the United States was the FJ40, which was noted for its toughness and off-road skills.

There’s no denying that the electric Toyota Moon Cruiser is inspired by the robust 4×4, but it’s designed for a different era. The Moon Rover is propelled by electric motors in the wheels and is controlled by joysticks. Meanwhile, airless tires facilitate movement.

Toyota isn’t the only legacy carmaker working on an electric Lunar Cruiser. Hyundai Motor started constructing an autonomous rover earlier this year, and Nissan unveiled plans for a Lunar Terrain Vehicle (LTV) for future NASA moon missions.

Other businesses are getting in on the act. Venturi Astrolab, for example, is developing a solar-powered FLEX Rover that will launch on a future SpaceX mission.

What are your thoughts? Should Toyota put this in production? A tough electric 4×4 would fit neatly in its lineup, but the extra space will have to go.
